678 |b Graduated from the Medical College of Ain Shams University, Cairo, in 1985. He was a member of the Yemeni Parliament, representing Shibam, from 1997 to 2003. In 2007, he was elected as commissioner to the Supreme National Authority for Combating Corruption, the first anticcorruption commission in Yemen. In December 2011 he was appointed Minister of Industry and Trade in the reconciliation government. He moved to Singapore in late 2014, following a cabinet reshuffle. He has written a number of papers on the Hadhrami diaspora and on reform and democracy in Yemen.
