DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification / call number)

The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) provides a universal system for cataloguing of library holdings, which is of international significance. Most common use of the DDC applies to the Anglo-American regions and countries of the former Commonwealth. The American librarian Melvil Dewey established the classification in 1873.

Important for the study of religion are the sections 200-219 (Religion / general topics) and 290-299 (individual "non-Christian" religions); occasionally there are also interesting titles in DDC 300 (social sciences) or 900 (history).

In RelBib, the search filter “DDC” helps to find bibliographic entries or narrow down result lists according to this classification.
