Zusammenfassung:Today we have good knowledge about the history and presence of Yoga in Germany. The following article tries to discover, whether the discussion about the so called >Jugendsekten< (>sects<, »destructive cults<) and the mostly negative public opinion about these New Religious Movements (NRM) in Germany has had any influence on the public opinion about Yoga. The evaluation of the main documents shows us, that there is hardly any influence. The different forms of Yoga, commonly practised in Germany today, are mostly seen as >secular< practises like gymnastics and similar physical and mental exercises. This common view is shared by both sides: the critics and the followers of Yoga. If there is ecclesiastical criticism of Yoga mentioned, this criticism is very often influenced by the condemnation of the NRMs. Altogether the Yoga- Scene in Germany is not yet very much affected by this question.
