Description
Résumé:Philosophy of religion, in the 20th century, has been moved out of history of religions (Religionswissenschaft) to a great extent. This development seems to be consequent and necessary if history of religions is to be constituted as a historicalphilological or as an empirical discipline independent of theology. However, there is one line in the philosophy of religion, the so-called analytical philosophy of religion, which might still be of relevance for history of religions, insofar as it is concerned with analysing the language of religion. Philosophical theories of religious language might have a considerable heuristic value within the framework of history of religions. This value, however, can be verified only by applying these theories, as e. g. those developed by I. T. Ramsey and R. Braithwaite, to materials from the history of religions, e. g. from the European history of religions, Christian and non-Christian.
