| Zusammenfassung: | This article underlines the importance of pamphlets as a mass medium for the religio-political developments in early modernity. Of particular significance is the connection of astrological-apocalyptic and reformatory pamphlets. The rising numbers of pamphlets produced affects writings of an astrological, reformatory, and political nature. The prediction of a Biblical-scale Flood for the year 1524 induces apocalyptic expectations, which receive additional impetus through the prediction of a >minor prophet<. A connection is thereby forged between astrology/mantic/prophecy and the events surrounding Martin Luther that take place between 1517 and 1525. The end-times mood supported and popularized through the mass media helps, finally, the Reformation to a swift expansion and acceptance. |
