Although Longinus's theories about the localization of the ideas (outside the Noῦς) gave many reasons for important discussions, e.g. in Plotinus's school in Rome, later on he was criticized for sympathizing too much with stoic theories and therefore for not being an orthodox Platonist. In this paper the fragments and testimonies about Longinus's theories on ideas are put into a philosophical context and are interpreted together with some of his more philological texts, in which he uses the same ontological premises and patterns. Here it can be seen that the philologist Longinus always gives a literal explanation, sometimes using not-Platonic terminology, to make complex philosophical texts easier to understand. | ||
