Im Umkreis Himmlers wollte der Indologe Walther Wüst zwischen dem Buddha und Adolf Hitler als bedeutender Arier Parallelen feststellen. Auch fand die Idee der Wiedergeburt Zustimmung. Alfred Rosenberg und Alfred Grunsky werteten den Buddha als arischen Mann der Tat. Die der NSDAP angehörenden Philosophen August Faust, Eugen Herrigel und Karlfried Graf Dürckheim versprachen sich Impulse vom Zen-Buddhismus. Dagegen lehnten Ernst Bergmann und Ernst Krieck den Buddhismus ab und warnten vor asiatischen Einflüssen in Europa als einer Bedrohung der Lebensbejahung des westlichen Menschen. Die Exponenten des deutschen Buddhisten hatten zumeist positive Einstellungen zum Nationalsozialismus. Man setzte einem semitischen Christentum den von einem Arier gegründeten Buddhismus entgegen.

In Himmler’s circle, Indologist Walther Wüst tried to assert parallels between the Buddha and Adolf Hitler as important Aryans. The idea of reincarnation also met with approval. Alfred Rosenberg and Alfred Grunsky regarded the Buddha as an Aryan man of action. Philosophers August Faust, Eugen Herrigel, and Karlfried Graf Dürckheim, all party members, sought inspiration from Zen Buddhism. Ernst Bergmann and Ernst Krieck rejected Buddhism and warned against Asian influences in Europe as a threat to the life-affirming ways of the West. German Buddhists mostly had positive attitudes towards National Socialism, contrasting Christianity with its origins in Judaism against Buddhism, which had been founded by an Aryan.
