They raise many issues, but due to limited space, we respond to only three: (1) the form of their response and our article’s aim; (2) the notion of “justice” and its relation to the aims in the final section of our article, which particularly evoked the annoyance of our critics; and (3) the intersection of academic discourse and advocacy.Our critics deliberately foreground form over content, thereby setting up a predetermined framework with which to view the content of our article based on their strong—and contradictory—views on how religion studies should be “properly” done.... |
