This paper presents a portion of the semantic field of property in the language of the Mishnah. The concept of the semantic field is discussed, as well as the method for locating the lexical items which make up the semantic field. The relevant portion of the semantic field is shown to consist of a number of lexical items, both independent lexemes and phrases. The lexical items are listed and semantically analysed and their development and place in the lexicon of Mishnaic Hebrew are presented. The paper presents the internal structure of this portion of the semantic field and shows how the newly attested lexical items came to be used in Mishnaic Hebrew. These new lexical items are shown to have developed through lexical borrowing in addition to internal developments in the Hebrew language.
