Im Frühjahr 2014 begannen Gespräche zwischen Betriebsrat und Arbeitgeber der SAP SE über ein Restrukturierungskonzept unter dem Motto »Simplify & Optimize«. Beteuert wurde, dass es sich um »keine Kostensparmaßnahme« handeln würde. Beschäftigte sprachen deshalb zunächst davon, dass mal wieder eine »Sau durch’s Dorf getrieben wird«. Eine Folge dieser Kurzfristökonomie der Maßlosigkeit mit einer Ziel-Gewinnmarge von 35 % für 2017: Seit Jahren bestehen eine sehr hohe Zahl von Langzeitkranken und eine Arbeitskultur psychischen Leidens. 
520 |a Trust in institutions and so-called economic leaders has been eroding since the 2008 financial crisis, which has to be understood as indicator of a breach in the social contract. In spring 2014, talks have been begun between the SAP SE CEOs and the company's industrial council (a German law-based in-company employees committee) on business restructuration efforts in the official line of »simplification and optimization«. During those talks, company officials declared that there was no intent of cost-cutting in those restructuration measures. To the rank and file, the process at first seemed just another management »fad«. However, as plans for 2017 have projected profit margins of 35%, the company climate and culture of work in what may be described as »short-term economics of immoderation« has become rougher. For years now in the company there has been a very high rate of long-term illnesses and psychic strain among employees.
