In the meanwhile there is much scepticism about such global theories, as can be shown by reference to recent handbooks, and there is a growing conscience of the rhetorical character of the biblical sources (Hebrew tradition as well as Septuagint). The main topic of Old Testament research concerning "cult/ temple prostitution" is the reality of the so called "qedeshot" - in the past often translated or interpreted as "sacred/cult prostitutes''. A detailed look on all the instances in the Hebrew Bible results in the sober conclusion that we cannot know for sure who were these qedeshot, and that there is no proof of cult/temple prostitution in biblical Israel. | ||
