| Résumé: | On the basis of Sir 17, this article first interprets the understanding of the law in the book of Ben Sira/ Jesus Sirach, secondly illustrates the literary- and traditio-historical background of the term "Law of Life" in Deuteronomy, Ezekiel and in sapiential paraenesis, and thirdly determines the relation between wisdom and Torah and between universal and particular revelation ( cf. Deut 4; 30; Pss 19; 119; Bar 3-4). Furthermore, this essay presents convergences and divergences between the conception of a universal law in the book of Ben Sira andin Stoicism. The particular relevance of the conception of God as creator and of the term "life" for the theology of Ben Sira remain evident throughout. Finally, the sapiential ideal of education is sketched using the example of the Greek version's prologue. |
