After a look at the cosmological and political implications of forest monks, the state and the environment, the author narrates how a forest monk (Ajaan Thui Chanthakaro) at a forest monastery (Wat Dong Sii Chomphuu) addresses these problems. The author believes that with an awareness of the ecosystem and the importance of sustainable cultural practices, forest monks like Ajaan Thui have in recent times become a vital means of protecting the remaining peripheral forests.
