Agamben derives the Western distinction between reign and governance from the Christian paradigm of divine economy: the transcendent God maintains a providential regime through secondary causes. Conversely, Ruster interprets demonic and heavenly powers in a system-theoretical way as manifestations of social systems which have become overpowering. Using different paths, both are looking within a messianic theology for ways to break through these system-induced constraints, for counterimages to a metaphysically charged status quo of the world. | ||
