| Résumé: | The authors focus their attention on recent translations of the Koran into Hausa and Fulfulde and the implications of these works to religious instruction in Nigeria and Mali. Two hundred years ago Fulfulde (after Arabic) was the language most closely associated with Islamic scholarship in West Africa; Hausa was one of the languages of the 'unbelievers'.
