Summary: | Among the faithful most ardent in ecclesiastical practice there are signs of a fobia [sic!] in which "everything is sin". Where does this anomaly come from? Even a pessimistic reading of the Bible helps out. But the main roots are in the Penitentials and post-tridentine manuals of moral theology, plus the Latin translations which did not respect the changes in meaning of certain traditional terms, and Jansenistic rigorism. Also, a monopolization of "confession" has absorbed a practice of reconciliation with persons, social classes, ethnic groups and the badly dealt with environment. |
