It was at least implicitly agreed that this would be the outcome of the Age of Enlightenment and of the 19th century Positivism. But the development of sciences and democracy have also carried along some elements that have resulted in the proliferation of a new barbarism in the 20th century. We here consider how the "internal barbarism" denounced by many authors, from Camus or Bernanos to Lévinas and Steiner, today affects the political educational and cultural fields. In order to counter the effects of the present and constantly renewed barbarism it is imperative to go back to the principles of human wisdom.
