Description
Summary:An analysis of the new geopolitics in Southwest Asia, in Afghanistan and Tajikistan, which seeks to offer a counterbalance to the present stereotypes. Whereas those assume the ongoing developments in Southwest Asia to be a conflict between Islam and secularism the article holds that it is a conflict between national and ethnic interests. It henceforth argues that the Taliban in Afghanistan are not an Islamist movement which could be compared to Islamist movements in Iran or elsewhere but a Pashtun traditionalist movement which seeks the restoration of its tribal village life.
