| Summary: | Comparative theology, this relatively new branch of the theology of religions, is about to open up new vistas in intercultural questions within the theology of religions which seems to be bogged down in the debates about 'inclusivism' versus 'pluralism'. The present study attempts to point out the philosophical background of comparative theology and its main interests with the purpose of specifying its methodology. Furthermore, the concept of comparative theology is sharpened by comparison with kindred disciplines. Finally, the author strives to answer recently raised questions and criticism of his own concept of comparative theology. |
