Dieser "Normalzustand" sei heute gefährdet durch staatliche Eingriffe und Prozesse der Ökonomisierung bis hin zur Deprofessionalisierung der Medizin. Der Beitrag überprüft dieses Bild anhand der historischen Evidenz zu Status und Verfasstheit des Ärztestandes und den damit verbundenen Verhaltensstandards. Er dokumentiert, dass der Status der Berufsgruppe durchgängig ein dynamisches Resultat von Aushandlungsprozessen zwischen Ärzteschaft, Gesellschaft und Obrigkeit war und dass Rechte und Pflichten des Berufsstandes nur in Abhängigkeit von öffentlichen Debatten und Vertrauen verstanden werden können. Mögliche normative Implikationen dieser historischen Befunde werden vorgestellt und diskutiert. | ||
| 520 | |a In debates on professional politics, there is frequent reference to an image of the medical profession as characterized by autonomy in relation to the state, self-control, reputation, and primacy of patient wellbeing. Today, this "natural" image is supposedly in danger by state intrusion and processes of economization. The article looks at the historical evidence about the status and organization of the profession, as well as related norms of conduct. It shows that the professions status continuously was a result of negotiations between physicians, society, and political authorities. Privileges and duties of the profession may only be understood in dependence of public debates and trust. Potential normative implications of this historical evidence are presented and discussed. | ||
