Cet article examine les destins religieux contrastés de trois acteurs importants de Nouvelle-Néerlande. Ils incarnent trois modes de confessionnalisation à différents degrés d’intensité : le premier consolateur des malades Bastiaen Jansz Krol, un mennonite converti, qui fut aussi durant une courte période directeur de la colonie ; le second pasteur de la Nouvelle Amsterdam, Evert Willemsz Bogaert (ou Bogardus), formée dans une atmosphère puritaine, mais qui sous le poids des circonstances adopta une attitude critique envers la confessionnalisation ; et le négociant Govert Loockermans, originaire d’une famille catholique du Brabant espagnol, mais, qui en Nouvelle-Néerlande, devint un pilier de la communauté en y jouant un rôle exemplaire de notable protestant. | ||
