Summary: | This article is divided in several parts. In the first one examines some international documents on education and scholastic policies in which greater attention is paid to people's own characteristics than to the markedly cognitive-functionalist orientations of previous decades. In this light, some of the socio-cultural changes underway are examined, realizing it is not possible to imagine simplistic solutions characterized by nostalgia. Finally, in the concluding part, there is an emphasis on the centrality of a "generative" approach to the education of young people entrusted to adults seen, not only as models, but as authoritative figures who are capable of being consistent human witness.
