| Zusammenfassung: | This article explores the recursive relationship between religious praxis and urban environments. It advances the concept of 'religious urbanism' to show how urban environments play an active role in shaping the praxis of religion, and how religious groups adopt secular logics in response to the pressures of urban environments. Such logics have given rise to new, more pragmatic forms of spatial reproduction that lead to the desecularisation of space. Desecularisation involves religious groups diminishing the secular properties of space, rather than attempting to achieve any lasting notion of sacredness. Drawing on the restrictive religio-spatial context of Singapore, I demonstrate how fast-growing religious groups are forced to compete, commercialise, and compromise in order to acquire space. Combined, these factors have come to define religious urbanism in Singapore, and highlight the gulf between the planning and praxis of religion in urban environments. Cet article analyse l'interaction entre les pratiques religieuses et l'environnement urbain. L'auteur propose d'utiliser le concept «?d'urbanisme religieux?» pour montrer combien le contexte urbain façonne les pratiques religieuses et comment les groupes religieux adoptent des logiques séculières face aux contraintes de l'urbain. De telles logiques ont fini par provoquer des formes de reproduction spatiale plus pragmatiques qui conduisent à la «?désécularisation?» de l'espace. Ce processus implique le fait que les groupes religieux diminuent les propriétés de l'espace séculier plutôt que de tenter d'atteindre l'habituelle sacralisation de ce dernier. À partir du contexte de Singapour, où l'espace religieux est un bien rare, l'auteur démontre comment les nouveaux mouvements chrétiens émergeant sont obligés d'entrer en compétition, de commercialiser et de négocier pour acquérir un espace en ville. Le mix de ces facteurs tend à définir l'urbanisme religieux de Singapour et souligne l'écart existant entre la planification et les pratiques religieuses dans l'espace urbain. |
