520 |a Employing the uses and gratifications approach, this qualitative case study examines factors that motivate people to visit Agnostic Refuge (AR), an online discussion group devoted to the subject of agnosticism. Archival analysis of visitor postings revealed 6 uses and gratifications: wrangling, service, fulmination, understanding, tourism, and sanctuary. Motivations for AR suggest a possible negative correlation between interest in agnosticism and the personality trait agreeableness. AR visitors also appear to derive some benefits from this online forum that overlap gratifications associated with traditional religious participation.
