It focuses on the arguments of her most important book, Becoming Divine. Many of the criticisms I bring to Jantzen's philosophy have to do with the question of how we predicate "perfection terms" of God, especially when it comes to metaphysical issues. A key problem to which I shall often return is the following: Given that our language is natural and anthropomorphic, how can we speak of God in a way that God is meant per se? How do we make mention of God without assuming that theology is nothing but our speaking-a product of human projection and nothing more? In attending to questions such as these, one simultaneously attends to theology's principal task: the avoidance of idolatry. Throughout this piece, the twin dangers of pragmatism and immanentism are emphasized. I argue that feminist concerns about injustice need not result in the wholesale rejection of metaphysics. Without a strong account of the true, there can be no ultimate obligation to choose the good.
