Skidders and Their Servants: Variable Goals and Functions of the Skid Road Rescue Mission

An observational and interview study of Seattle's "skid road" missions suggests that although the official objectives of the missions are not successfully achieved, the missions live on because they effectively realize the personal goals of their leaders and the men who attend.
