Summary: | This essay examines two variant versions of a suilla-prayer to the goddess Gula. Based on internal textual analysis, it is ascertained that Gula 1a is the later and more developed version of the two. Both versions contain sections in which Gula is asked to reconcile the petitioner with his angry personal gods. In accordance with the author's recent work on this theme in the suillas, it is argued that these sections in the Gula prayers are secondary, perhaps as part of a larger revision in a body of suillas. |
