Sur l'initiative de l'évêque se met en scène un spectacle grandiose qui entraine l'adhésion de la population et des visiteurs. À l'exemple de Charles Borromée, la croyance en la sainteté passe alors par l'efficacité logistique de l'Église : préparatifs minutieux dont une communication en amont par le biais de publications, une culture matérielle impressionnante (bannières, costumes, reliquaires, baldaquins), ordre et contrôle de la foule. Ces composantes rituelles permettent de générer du croire dans l'authenticité des reliques des trois « saints » non-canonisés. En stimulant les sens et les émotions, l'événement engendre la participation enthousiaste des Pérugins. Par la suite, l'évêque Comitoli gère et exploite de manière systématique la stratégie processionnelle, ce qui souligne la prééminence du clergé au détriment de la magistrature municipale. La manifestation extraordinaire de mai 1609 à Pérouse révèle le rôle de la procession et de son organisation dans le phénomène de la croyance collective. 
520 |a Focusing on a triple relic translation in 1609 Perugia, this article analyzes the conditions under which a procession may build up collective belief. This grandiose event, typical of the Counter-reformation, brought the population and visitors to endorse the bishop’s initiative. As in Carlo Borromeo’s model, creating consensus relied on the logistical efficacy of the Church with its meticulous preparation and printed instructions, an impressing material culture (banners, costumes, reliquaries, baldachins), and law and order. Such ritual components led to the production of belief in the authenticity of the relics of three local non-canonized saints. Stimulating senses and emotions generated the enthusiastic participation of Perugians. Thereafter, bishop Comitoli fully exploited the processional strategy, which highlighted the preeminence of the clergy to the detriment of the municipal magistracy. The extraordinary gathering of 17 May 1609 in Perugia reveals the role of processions and their organization in the phenomenon of collective belief.
