HIV and AIDS called into question established scientific knowledge, methods, and theories, highlighting their inadequacy. University classroom boundaries had to be extended to include the community outside the academic halls, thereby necessitating curriculum transformation concerning the content, justification, and methods of teaching. While HIV and AIDS generated silence and death, responsive teaching methods had to create a space of breaking the silence, healing, and working out a theology of resurrection.
