One example is considered in this paper, namely, how Dylan often portrays himself (or at least characters in songs) in ways that recall stories about Jesus. Two areas are treated: (a) imagery associated with Jesus' death; and (b) Dylan's use of deliberate ambiguity in Christ/antichrist language. The paper opens with two sections on methodology: the first includes comments on the limitations of artistic works for biographical research. The second treats the relationship between artistic literature and earlier sources.
