Secularism does not remove the role of religion but only transforms it in the public sphere by providing people the space for their agency in practicing their religiosity. Applied in the Philippine setting where religiosity of the people remains vibrant, the freedom that people experience allows them to exercise their religious devotions as can be seen in the annual celebrations of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila and the Santo Nino in Cebu City in the Philippines. Moreover, the freedom of conscience demonstrated by the debates on the Reproductive Rights Bills (now Law) shows the awareness of people of their religious convictions in the public sphere. | ||
