Não obstante as novidades urbanísticas, os preceitos tradicionais mantiveram fortes, principalmente no âmbito da religiosidade local. A Igreja Católica continuou a afirmar seu poder por várias maneiras, dentre as quais a proibição da manifestação do Reinado na cidade. Diante do exposto, o presente artigo tem como objetivo primeiro apresentar a proibição do Reiando na cidade de Belo Horizonte pela Igreja Católica no início do século XX. Por meio deste acontecimento, problematiza-se a relação entre a Igreja e o poder civil local bem como a questão do lugar dos negros congadeiros na recém-criada capital. | ||

Planned under the principles of modernity that plagued the country in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, the city had a different urban apparatus when compared to the old capital. Despite the urban developments, the traditional precepts remained strong, especially in the area of local religiosity. The Catholic Church continued to assert its power in a number of ways, including a ban on Congolese demonstration in the city. In view of the above, this article aims first to present the prohibition of King of Our Lady of the Rosary in the city of Belo Horizonte by the Catholic Church in the early twentieth century. Through this event, the relationship between the Church and the local civil power is questioned, as well as the question of blacks in the newly created capital. The study used the methodological procedures of bibliographic research and analysis of the documents of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte. Interviews with members of The Caroling Reign were also instrumental in writing this article. | ||

La Iglesia católica continuó afirmando su poder de varias maneras, incluida la prohibición de las manifestaciones ongoleñas en la ciudad. En vista de lo anterior, este artículo apunta primero a presentar la prohibición de Rey de Nuestra Señora del Rosario en la ciudad de Belo Horizonte por parte de la Iglesia Católica a principios del siglo XX. A través de este evento, se cuestiona la relación entre la Iglesia y el poder civil local, así como la cuestión de los negros en la capital recién creada. El estudio utilizó los procedimientos metodológicos de investigación bibliográfica y análisis de los documentos de la Arquidiócesis de Belo Horizonte.
