Dans un premier temps, les philosophes reflètent une théologie négative de deux manières : 1) en attribuant des adjectifs, qui s’appliquaient aux dieux, à des principes physiques ; 2) en considérant comme de simples phénomènes naturels ce qui était auparavant et traditionnellement considéré comme des dieux. Xénophane configure une théologie négative qui consiste à critiquer la vision homérique et une théologie positive qui, dans une large mesure, reste encore négative. L’auteur du Papyrus de Derveni interprétant une théogonie orphique considère qu’Ouranos, Kronos et Zeus ne sont que des noms de l’air intelligent. | ||

In a first stage, philosophers reflect a negative theology in two ways: 1) attributing to new philosophical principles adjectives that qualified the gods; 2) considering mere natural phenomena that were traditionally considered gods. Xenophanes configures a negative theology consisting of a critique of the Homeric view and a positive theology that is still a negative theology to a large extent. The author of the Derveni Papyrus interpreting an Orphic theogony considers that Ouranos, Kronos, and Zeus are mere names for the intelligent air. | ||
