Description
Summary:This paper discusses the problem of the possibility and range of divine discretion from the perspective of rationality theory. It will first be examined how and on which different levels the conceptual tools developed in the current debate on normative practical reasons can be made fruitful for a deeper understanding of the issue at hand. The focus here is on the category of adequate and justifying reasons. The second part explores whether and how the categories of adequate and justifying reasons can prevent deontic considerations (especially the moral obligations that the Creator has towards his creatures) from obstructing divine discretion.
