La notion d’hypophysique serait plus appropriée pour faire référence à l’attention que les maîtres à penser portaient, dès l’époque classique (ve-iiie siècle av. J.-C.), à un substrat de la réalité doté d’une phénoménalité minimale, constitué de signes menus à interpréter, et aux lignes de cohérence intrinsèques à l’ordre naturel de choses. Pourtant, le concept de métaphysique est employé dans plusieurs études contemporaines pour expliquer d’une manière unitaire les principes fondateurs de la pensée naturaliste chinoise. Si, initialement, en Chine, la démarche métaphysique était associée à la théologie chrétienne, avec l’avènement de la modernité elle a fini par être rapprochée de l’ancienne cosmologie ; l’équivalent lexical chinois de métaphysique (xing’ershangxue), dérivé d’une expression qui figure dans un commentaire du Classique des mutations, témoigne de cet effort de domestication. "07 Traditional Chinese cosmology didn’t foster any metaphysical speculation focusing on the idea of a radical divide between Nature and the material dimension on one side, and the substance, the Being and the divine realm on the other side. The notion of hypophysics would be more appropriate to stress that Chinese thinkers, as early as the classical times (vth-iiird century B. C. E.), turned their attention to the “hypophenomenal” foundation of reality, which was constituted of subtle signs requiring interpretation, and to the coherent patterns intrinsic to the natural flow of things. The concept of metaphysics is nevertheless used in a number of contemporary studies in order to explain the basic principles of Chinese naturalistic philosophy in a unitary way. Initially, in China, the metaphysical approach was associated to Christian theology, but with the development of modernity, it was eventually connected to ancient cosmology. The Chinese lexical equivalent of metaphysics (xing’ershangxue), which derives from an expression of a commentary to the Classic of Changes, gives evidence of this domestication effort. | ||
