Le concept de « postchrétien » sert à caractériser des cultures qui, bien que n’étant plus religieuses, sont encore marquées par l’empreinte du passé chrétien (on ne voit donc pas bien quelle culture anciennement chrétienne ne serait pas postchrétienne aujourd’hui). Nous critiquons ce concept beaucoup trop large, qui permet par exemple de traiter comme « postchrétienne » la violence terroriste de la Fraction armée rouge dans les années 70 du xxe siècle. En définitive, c’est l’usage du concept clé de « sécularisation » qui est mis en cause. | ||

Christianity, Violence and the West. The author defends the idea that "post-Christian" ideologies can explain forms of violence specific to the Western world such as holy war, martyrdom and terror. The concept of "post-Christian" characterizes cultures that are no longer religious but are still marked by the imprint of the Christian past (it is therefore not clear which formerly Christian culture would not be post-Christian today). I criticize this concept, which is far too broad and allows, for example, the terrorist violence of the "Rote Armee Fraktion" in the 1970s to be treated as "post-Christian". Ultimately, it is the use of the key concept of "secularization" that is questioned. | ||
