Só em 1968, no novo clima gerado pelo Concílio Vaticano II, ela passou a estar presente, com alguns dos seus teólogos, na Comissão de Fé e Ordem do C.M.I. Mas nunca aceitou, até hoje, integrar-se como mais uma das suas Igrejas--membros - porque, de facto, a sua doutrina sobre si mesma não foi alterada. | ||
| 520 | |a Modern ecumenical movement stems from a Protestant and Orthodox initiative; it is now one hundred years old and took an institutional form in the World Council of Churches. Roman Catholic Church, although invited from the beginning, rejected the appeal and hindered her flock of faithful from any contact with that movement. Only after Vatican Council II did she accept to belong to one of its commissions, but without full inclusion as one of its member-Churches. The ecumenical movement was always concerned with describing itself as a plurality, and the WCC is formally presented as a Fellowship of Churches. The official teaching of the Roman Catholic Church maintains that Orthodox Churches are defective as long as they won’t accept the Catholic doctrine of the “Primacy of Peter”, and that “Ecclesial Communities” brought by the Reformation, without a valid Episcopate and Eucharist, “are not Churches in the proper sense.” Catholic understanding of ecumenical unity keeps rooted upon the concept of “return”; the ecumenical movement represented by the WCC searches for purposes as koinonia and consensus. | ||
