For at forstå religionens rolle i et moderne samfund foreslår artiklen derfor, at man i stedet for at anskue religionens samfundsmæssige rolle sekulariseringsteoretisk anlægger den opfattelse, at samfundet består af en lang række funktionssystemer med hver deres kode, funktion og diskurs. Ét af disse systemer er religionen. Det efter min mening bedste sociologiske bud på en sådan analyse finder man hos den tyske sociolog Niklas Luhmann. Først resumerer jeg kort Luhmanns teori om samfundet, hvori teorien om religion som funktionssystem indgår. Dernæst redegør jeg for Luhmanns teori om religion. Min hovedkilde er hans bog Die Religion der Gesellschaft, der blev udgivet i 2000. Til sidst peger jeg på nogle forskningsperspektiver i forlængelse af Luhmanns projekt, herunder blandt andet mit eget at analysere religion som en særlig vidensform, nemlig fjerde ordens viden. | ||
| 520 | |a Religion has experienced a renaissance in the public sphere. The theory of secularisation, which stated that reason and belief were competing discourses, has demonstrated its own insufficiency. In order to understand the role of religion in modern society the article suggests that the theory of secularisation is replaced by the conception that society is constituted by a large number of functional system, each with their own code, function and discourse. One of these systems is religion. In my opinion the best suggestion for a theory of religion based on these assumptions is provided by the German sociologist Niklas Luhmann. First, I summarise Luhmann’s theory of society, in which the theory of religion is included. Second, I present Luhmann’s theory of religion. My basic source is his book Die Religion der Gesellschaft, which was published posthumously in 2000. Finally, I suggest a number of research perspectives in continuation of Luhmann’s oeuvre, among others my own analysis of religion as a particular category of knowledge: fourth order knowledge | ||
