Description
Summary:This master thesis provides an interreligious overview of the relation between religion and emancipation in Islam. It examines existing theoretical concepts of the interreligious dialogue and presents distinct definitions in the fields of emancipation, feminism, and women’s rights. The thesis investigates the role of the woman in traditional Islam and German society in terms of self- and external-perception. For this purpose, life plans of Muslim women are outlined. Contrary to common presumptions among the German mainstream society about female oppression in Islam, religion assumes an empowering function in the life of many Muslim women. Furthermore, an examination of the Koran and the Hadith strongly refutes the unfounded notion of Islam’s alleged misogyny. Based on the collective results of current research, the thesis establishes action fields and provides guidance for the interreligious dialogue and learning.
