Zusammenfassung: | In view of the humanitarian catastrophe on Europe's borders, this article seeks to outline the drivers and the ambiguity of European border regulation and make a suggestion on how to deal with the (European) crisis. After a short introductory reflection on the concept of borders and performative border practices in the sense of "doing borders", it offers an analysis of the changes and the status quo in European border regulations in recent years. In this setting limits and exclusion stand out as important elements of the EU's border system. The conclusion looks for possibilities for solidarity along vertical borders, that is between the institutions, towns, regions and the EU as a whole. |
