The aim of this article is to emphasize how a commitment to persons with disabilities in L’Arche communities may offer a new outlook on human evolution and the emergence of spirituality. The thesis, underlying both anthropology, taking into account human frailty, and theology agreeing with the assumption of a vulnerable God, consists of holding that social participation of persons with (severe) disabilities in their communities, far from being insignificant in human evolution, has played—and continues to play—a dynamic role in the deepening of both moral and spiritual dimensions of human existence.
