Description
Summary:The question of the sea is a reality that invades and configures the ancient texts and assigns them a structural and totalizing expressiveness. The religious status of these texts is also due to this expressiveness. The rooting of the themes of the sea occurs in the form of myth, that is, as an exemplary, essential and systemic narrative. The ancient texts with the greatest religious relevance imposed on us on the horizon of antiquity are those of the Bible. Indeed, the sea in the Bible unfolds in multiple metaphorical functions, which define some of the main coordinates of the system of thought. They define what is primordial and abyssal, with multiple metaphoricities arising from it. The primordial naturally refers to all the dynamisms of creation and to the dynamisms and dialectics of history. From the sea rise figures of oppressive power with draconian and monstrous appearances (Dn 7). Around this nucleus are structured parcelary coordinates of mythical subthemes, in the form of sectoral narratives, which converge to an immense parable of synthesis where the immense duration of history, as a global horizon of the gaze in human consciousness, is drawn as the major myth, where the myths encrusted as in precious jewel-case.
