Description
Résumé:The article reviews how the belief in the law of karma helps Hindus cope with disability. Karma is neither divine retribution nor inevitable fate. One can mitigate the results of past karma and improve present and future karma by acts of piety and good deeds. Although the law of karma sometimes causes negative coping by evoking the feelings of guilt for having brought the condition due to past misdeeds, it generally helps in accepting the condition with equanimity. Equipoise and surrender to the will of God also help Hindus in coping with disability. The coping strategy of Hindus is compared to that of other Eastern religions such as Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism.
