A Igreja Cató-lica, ao mesmo tempo que criticava a ação dos fi nancistas, mantinha relações econômicas com eles, e em algumas situações ela mesma praticava o emprés-timo com juros. Martinho Lutero, conhecedor de perto das práticas da Igre-ja de Roma, pronunciou-se contrário à prática de emprestar cobrando juros. E Calvino, percebendo a situação de sua época, principalmente em Genebra, manifestou-se a fi m de regulamentá-lo e inibir os abusos. | ||
