Aufgrund dieser lückenhaften Forschungslage besteht das Ziel der Arbeit darin, die theoretischen Zusammenhänge zwischen einzelnen Dimensionen des Religiösen (insbesondere der religiösen Zugehörigkeit, den religiösen Überzeugungen und der religiösen Partizipation) auf der einen Seite sowie ausgewählten Dimensionen der Sozialintegration (sozial, strukturell und emotional-identifikativ) von Zuwanderern in Deutschland auf der anderen Seite zu spezifizie-ren und auf der Basis unterschiedlicher quantitativer Datensätze empirisch zu analysieren. Die kumulative Dissertation umfasst drei Forschungsartikel, die sich jeweils mit der Rolle von Religion für eine spezifische Dimension des Integrationsprozesses beschäftigen. Die Ergebnisse deuten insgesamt darauf hin, dass die Effekte von Religion für die Integrationsprozesse der betrachteten Zuwanderergruppen in Deutschland eher marginal ausfallen. Dies gilt insbesondere im Vergleich zu anderen, weitaus gewichtigeren Faktoren wie den Sprachkenntnissen oder der Arbeitsmarktteilhabe. Dies heißt nicht, dass religiöse Aspekte gar keinen Einfluss auf die Integration von Zuwanderern in Deutschland ausüben. Auch in den vorliegenden Arbeiten zeigen sich vereinzelte Effekte wie zum Beispiel, dass eine stärkere Einbindung in religiösen Gemeinschaften unter neu nach Deutschland zugezogenen Muslimen aus der Türkei den Aufbau interethnischer sozialer Beziehungen positiv beeinflusst. Auch zeigt sich im Hinblick auf die Bildungsteilhabe, dass hochreligiöse evangelische Schüler*innen selbst unter Kontrolle sozioökonomischer und demographischer Kontrollvariablen signifikant häufiger ein Gymnasium besuchen als Schüler*innen anderer Religionszugehörigkeit. Und auch bei den aktuell Geflüchteten zeigt sich zum Beispiel, dass hochreligiöse muslimische Männer tendenziell eher traditionelle Geschlechterrollenbilder befürworten als weniger religiöse Personen oder Geflüchtete christlichen Glaubens. Die einzelnen Effekte sind jedoch allesamt eher als gering einzuschätzen, so dass die Arbeit insgesamt zu dem Ergebnis kommt, dass die Bedeutung von Religion für die gesellschaftliche Teilhabe von Zuwanderern in Deutschland in den Integrationsdiskursen der letzten Jahre überschätzt wurde. | ||
| 520 | |a The starting point of this doctoral thesis is a discrepancy between an increased attention paid to the importance of religion in the integration processes of people with a migration background in Germany since the turn of the millennium in academia, the public and politics, and the simultaneously glaring (empirical) lack of research on this topic. Due to this patchy research situation, the aim of the paper is to specify the theoretical relationships between individual dimensions of religiosity (especially religious affiliation, religious beliefs, and religious participation) on the one hand and selected dimensions of integration (social, structural, and emotional-identificational) of immigrants in Germany on the other hand and to analyze them empirically on the basis of different quantitative data sets. The cumulative dissertation includes three research articles, each dealing with the role of religion for a specific dimension of the integration process. Overall, the results suggest that the effects of religion on the integration processes of the immigrant groups considered in Germany are rather marginal. This is particularly true in comparison with other, far more important factors such as language skills or labor market participation. This does not mean that religious aspects have no influence at all on the integration of immigrants in Germany. The thesis also finds isolated effects, such as the fact that stronger involvement in religious communities among Muslims from Turkey who have recently moved to Germany has a positive influence on the development of interethnic ties. With regard to participation in education, it is also evident that highly religious Protestant students attend a Gymnasium significantly more often than students of other religions, even when controlling for socioeconomic and demographic variables. And among refugees, for example, it can be shown that highly religious Muslim men tend to endorse more traditional gender role models than less religious individuals or refugees of Christian faith. However, the individual effects are all to be assessed as rather small, so that the thesis as a whole comes to the conclusion that the importance of religion for the social participation of immigrants in Germany has been overestimated in the integration discourses of recent years. | ||
