Summary:Although the philosopher Paul Ricœur does not seem to have been one of the authors who shaped Pope Francis’ thinking, Pope Francis mentions him in some key documents of his magisterium. In this sense, we can see how Francis uses Ricœur’s philosophy in order to show the importance of mediations for the practice of charity and to indicate that the identity of the Church can be understood as a “narrative identity.” In this way, the Church is able to free itself from ideologies and follow the Spirit that animates it.
