My experiences there provoke a number of critical questions. Why is it so comforting to devote hours to a single commentary by the medieval scholars known collectively as Tosafos? What is the relationship of ‘slowdown’ at the yeshiva to the notions of ‘residual’ cultural formation (Raymond Williams), ‘traditional’ institutions, or the reactionary versus the modern? In the broadest terms, what is the relationship between rhetorics of time, the experience of time, and economies of time at MTJ? | ||
