Based on the discussion of the concept of popular religion, as well as ethnographic and historical data, it exemplifies the relevance of sanctuaries for the Catholic Church by proposing a broad definition of sanctuary. Taken as an example, this small sanctuary in northern Italy shows in what way sacred places are part of a cultural and religious heritage that local societies are striving to preserve. | ||
