This essay aims to analyze the use of this expression in pastoral documents promulgated by the Italian Episcopal Conference between 1986 and 2005. The study shows a deliberate indistinction between a personal and an impersonal concept of identity, which makes ecclesiastical rhetoric applicable to all contexts and occasions. My thesis is that the emphatic recourse to the theme of identity is a form to mitigate current weaknesses regarding a way of thinking about faith. | ||
