The main goal of the quantitative inquiry was to ascertain the reciprocal attitudes of members of FBK large scientifi c community and their positions regarding interdisciplinary collaboration. The study originated from a refl ection on the relationship between «soft» and «hard» sciences, an issue which has been at the center of a great theoretical debate for nearly two centuries, but a debate that was largely based on anecdotal evidence rather than strictly empirical evidence. The topics discussed in the article are: (a) the researchers’ sense of belonging to the scientifi c community/ies; and (b) their cognitive, emotional, and behavioral attitudes toward the «other» culture and, more specifi cally, their attitudes regarding cross-disciplinary collaborations. A gender perspective was also adopted in order to investigate the non-homogeneity of the scientifi c community. | ||
